The Year 2000 Date Problem - Support Centre

Is Your Hardware & Software Year 2000 Compliant?

includes Embedded Systems, Hospital & Medical

Help your Year 2000 programme with:

These pages link to Manufacturers' pages giving some idea of their Year 2000 Compliance position on the various products they have produced. There are links to Manufacturer lists , lists of Hospital and Medical Equipment and lists of Embedded Systems produced by Public Service bodies, etc. For those with PCs, please check the information in Will your PCs work into the next century?.

Some questions to ask on Compliance are listed by the MITRE Corporation (for DISA). Also see the date conformity paper from the British Standards Institute, DISC and Year 2000 Contract Protection and Warranty Language (GSA)

Some of the position statements are made by manufacturers with a sense of their responsibility to their users. Others are written with the attitude of "Tough luck! Buy our latest product (with the additional expensive hardware and software needed) and you'll be OK.!"

Where the costs of changing non-compliant software to compliant software (including labour and resource costs) to fix the Millenium Bug are substantial (and that is relative to each case), you may wish to consult your lawyers. Some manufacturers in the IT industry (particularly those involved with PC products) have far too cavalier an attitude towards their customers.

We would suggest the following:

  1. Download a copy of the relevant page(s) and use it in your discussions with the manufacturers. Keep written notes of all discussions
  2. Never believe any manufacturers' sales pitch - seek technical corroboration. Regretably manufacturers have been promising dates that have often been missed in the past - you cannot afford to miss the date with the Year 2000 Date Problem - you only have one bite at the cherry! And, anyway, how often has a manufacturer's fix for one problem created other problems?
  3. Get all information from manufacturers in writing
We would like to know how users of our service get on with manufacturers, and any additional information they pick up. Send us information
